Good morning. Thank you for coming to our press conference.
I am proud to be standing before you today as a part of the Republican Slate of Town and County Candidates selected to run for office in 2011. I know that I speak for my colleagues when I say that it is a privilege and an honor to serve our constituents and it is a responsibility that we take very seriously. The Slate of Republican Candidates running for office are:
Myself, John Hickman for the Office of Town Supervisor
Peter Cassidy for the Office of Town Council
Nicholas D’alessandro for the Office of Town Council
Carol Hurray for the Office of Town Clerk
Claudia Heckert for the Office of Receiver of Taxes
Dennis Miller for the Office of Highway Superintendent
Marge Horton for the Office of County Legislator
Rob Weiss for the Office of County Legislator
John Thomes for the Office of County Legislator
Ori Brachfeld for the Office of County Legislator
This Republican Slate is a team; a team with proven results in service as we, and the rest of the country, struggle to emerge from the deepest recession in the history of our nation. It is easier to lead when times are good, it is a challenge to lead when times are bad and we have proven that we are up to that challenge. Our platform reflects the principles and ideals we hold dear: fiscal responsibility, experience, integrity, and innovation. These ideals are very important, even more so in these difficult times.
For years Peter Cassidy and I have worked together to change both internal and external operations in the Town, resulting in very positive change; bringing Presidential Way water, fixing the Fishkill Plains Water System, addressing the Sagamor Sewer rate issue, changing our zoning ordinances to be more business friendly, while always looking to better manage our budget. Something else that we have done is assembling a team of dedicated professionals who work together to save the Town money and provide better services, design, and oversight.
We also have a new face on the team, Nicholas D’alessandro, a local businessman, a family man, a young man who, much as I did when I was seeking office, came to the meetings, volunteered his time, asks questions and understands the issues. Nick is intelligent, thoughtful, and he is running for office to make our town better; he is an asset to our team.
We have Carol Hurray and Claudia Heckert our Town Clerk and Receiver of Taxes respectively, both doing a terrific job in making their offices run more efficiently. We have Dennis Miller who has served our town the longest of all and I think he is probably the best Highway Superintendent we have ever had. And I cannot forget our County Legislators, Marge Horton, Rob Weiss, and John Thomes who work so hard to serve their constituents on the county level. And we have another new face, candidate Ori Brachfeld, a small business owner working to represent the people in the 16th Legislative District.
Yes, I am proud to be a candidate for the Office of Town Supervisor; but, I am equally proud to be running with a slate of dedicated, proven public servants such as these. This is a terrific slate and we look forward to serving the Town of East Fishkill. Thank you for coming.
